The Panama Hat was officially introduced in the early 20th century, but its inspired by South American weaving traditions that date back half a millennia. The hat originates in Ecuador, but takes its name from the Panama Canal the workers who built the canal wore them for protection from the sun. Guanabanas Panama Hat has a pinch front, wide brim and patterned band around the crown. Its hand-woven from natural toquilla straw by Wayuu artisans using the traditional Colombian iraca technique. This is a hat with some structure to it, so avoid tossing it in your bag if you dont want it to get bent out of shape.
